A certified guide leads you through the Upper and Lower Lakes and shares the story of Croatia’s oldest national park. Ask anything that comes to mind.
Plitvice earned its UNESCO title by being incredibly well-preserved. Sixteen lakes cascade from one to the next via waterfalls — the most spectacular is Veliki Slap, Croatia’s tallest at 78 m.

Croatia has eight national parks; Plitvice is the largest at almost 30,000 hectares. Centrally located yet close to Kvarner and northern Dalmatia, it’s ideal as a day trip from the coast or a stop between Zagreb and Dalmatia.
You’ll learn about karst — limestone and dolomite shaped into sinkholes, caves and springs. The lake system formed roughly 15,000 years ago thanks to growing tufa barriers. Cascading waterfalls connect the lakes in an ongoing biodynamic process — so Plitvice looks slightly different every visit.
Scientists have studied Plitvice since the Habsburg era — research into lake depths began in 1850 and continues today across flora, fauna, geology and more. On this tour you’ll ride an electric boat across Kozjak Lake and a panoramic train along the lakes.
Twenty waterfalls taller than 10 m and six taller than 20 m create Plitvice’s mosaic of water. Your guide takes you to Veliki Slap (78 m / 255 ft) at the bottom of the Lower Lakes — spectacular after heavy rain, and in winter often a giant ice sculpture.
Tell your guide if you want to focus on waterfalls, viewpoints or quieter paths. Ask about how the forest shelters rare wildlife — brown bears, wolves and lynx live hidden within it.
